Dancing Elves Top the Charts. OfficeMax’s Perfect Viral Campaign?

If you are not familiar with OfficeMax's 'Elf Yourself' viral marketing campaign, you are living under a rock sans Internet. This campaign allows users to upload their own pictures which are then pasted atop a dancing elf body. It is easy and amusing to use and only available during the December holiday season. User engagement is huge in the up and coming viral market and this campaign is the perfect example as it has brought so much attention to OfficeMax.

I remember this campaign and the mass amount of success it had. I think it was genius of OfficeMax and a lesson in the new ways of internet marketing interacting personally with the user.

Burger King's subservient chicken is another example of this. A guy dressed up in a chicken suit will act out things that you type in to a regular chat box on the site. If you tried to get him to do anything naughty he would just wave his chicken fingers at you.
