Marketing via Text Message

Posted by William Robles in

I was checking out some news this morning and I came across this article about Marketing through text messaging. They are now saying that Marketing through text messaging is a guarantee of it to be read by the consumer (97% and 83% read within the first hour). There are a couple of interesting facts that I didn't know. I think this is an interesting article to read if you want to know how wide marketing is.

I find that surprising. I get this one text message that I guess is "marketing" and I always delete it immediately as soon as I don't recognize the number and see the $ in the text. Couldn't even tell you what it's about. If they count that as reading a text message, then I believe that people opened the message and deleted it, but is that really effective?

One form of marketing text I've heard of I think has the potential to be extremely successful is... for example, a pizza shop in NYC will detect anyone within a 5 mile radius of the store and send out a message like, "Come to salvatore's now for a $5 large pizza!" It is something that is only being implemented in cities though, as better results are probably achieved. I think it would be great though if it moved to more suburban areas, but perhaps increase the radius to 15 miles or something.
