The Twitter Gamble

Posted by Haz-Mat Packaging

Something that has interested me through this Twitter craze is the obvious question- are businesses reaching their intended target audiences? As we discussed in class, marketing sometimes misses the boat when using social medias- like the example Dr. Murthy presented about Motrin- publishing questionable video advertisements.

For a common business entity it seems like a no brainer- why not seek inexpensive social medias to bring attention to your business. An alternative question is- are these companies wasting their time tweeting at impenetrable market segments? This doesn't mean, however, that all companies on Twitter are wasting their time, (or maybe they are).

The link below is about a Twitter campaign launched by Skittles. The marketing scheme- to post live Tweets, on the corporate Skittles website, anytime a Twitter user posted the word 'Skittle'.
Is it a marketing stroke of genius or a waste of time? Any thoughts?
