Ping: Free iPhone-to-iPhone Text Messaging

I just found out that if you download Ping from iPhone app cost money and it's not free unlike regular blackberry messenger that have ping is free. It's cool to have one on iPhone and you don't have to worry about using SMS text message or Instant Message. Some people think it is annoying to use and don't really need it since it's cost money. Also they think it would be to wait until they had more users before making the decision to charge.
I'm wondering if anybody have iPhone that come with Ping app. If you do have one, what so special about having ping on the iPhone. If you don't want to download ping on the iPhone application, wondering you won't get one?
