China Restricts Internet Access to it's Citizens

Until this week, I did not realize that the Chinese government limits the access it's citizens have on the internet. In particular, they have been trying to "cleanse" it for the citizens by blocking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, porn, blogs and others. Despite this effort to restrict, many citizens have recently been finding ways around the governments blocks.

Some of these people who "scale the digital wall" have begun holding conferences about the governments filters, exchanging information they find and looking for other ways to get past additional blocks.

I cannot fathom living in a place that attempted to control everything I looked at or engaged in online. You would think the government would eventually give up and realize that there is no possible way to achieve their goals of censoring all information they deem harmful or inappropriate. The situation that involved the AnchorFree company was almost saddening. These people only want to connect to others and their world through the Internet but can't because the system they are supposed to look up to is constantly blocking everything and saying no no NO. People will always find a way around these walls. The same situation goes for illegal movie and music downloads. It may not be on the same scale as the situation in China, but it is similar. Internet users are smart and will find a way to get what they want. The Internet provides users with an enormous community that is there for them and can help them break through any wall that blocks their path.
