Social Media Helped Donkin' Donuts

Because Dunkin' Donuts "create Dunkin's next donut" contest was so successful last year, they decided to do it again this year. With a 130,000 submission last year, it took a lot of effort and commitment to manage everything. Dunkin' Donuts thought its investment was well worth it considering their social media strategies resulted in an increase in sales.

Custom virtual donut submissions will be through March 8, 2010. To read mashable's article click here.

I found this article very interesting because it was a perfect example of what we have been learning in class in regards to reaching out to customers for new and innovative ideas. It benefits both Dunkin' Donuts and the consumer. Their are prizes awarded to the winner of the contest and Dunkin' Donuts receives a plethora of new donut flavor ideas.

This seems like an awesome idea for Dunkin Donuts... I don't think that there is any way they can lose out. Their budget has to be pretty low, especially considering the pay off they get simply by getting free ideas from their consumers. Maybe they should have a "perfect coffee" contest.
