Partnership Between LinkedIn and Twitter

Apparently a partnership was announced yesterday between LinkedIn and Twitter, allowing them to exchange status updates and tweets. This poses some obvious potential problems for those users who have both accounts and take advantage of this feature. The two sites are very different in their desired application. Some things that are common on Twitter would be considered unprofessional on LinkedIn and probably decrease the respectability of the user. As we have talked about in this class, it's important to be aware of the implication that a social media profile has on getting and keeping jobs.

Recommendation: Keep professional and personal lives as separate as possible. However, it may be possible and beneficial to link back from Twitter account(s) to a LinkedIn profile to increase internet presence. But certainly don't automatically send tweets to LinkedIn!

The interesting thing here is that two of you found the same thing to post about, and yes this agreement between these two companies is great but it really puts the burden on the user to be responsible.

I would have never expected these two companies to join forces... I don't feel like Twitter is an appropriate partner for LinkedIn, I see the possible application but from the current way that Twitter is used I can only see this causing problems. It would be better if it wasn't directly connected with Twitter but maybe used the same network so that the linkedIn tweets and the Twitter tweets aren't displayed on the same sites.

agreed. i don't believe that twitter is the most efficient partner for LinkedIn. But i guess, i do understand it because companies are trying to give more of a personal vibe out to customers and getting to know more about them that way is a possible outlet.

I think this connection is going to be used more for professionals that already use twitter in a professional manor. It would be a great thing for many of the clients that we had this quarter. Also if someone wanted to link their twitter to linkedin, but they are worried about certain content being shown on linkedin, they could also create a second twitter profile for that specific purpose.
