Holiday Season Salses Marketing on Social Media

Click Here to see an article about the Holiday season this year looking for a big push in advertising by social media. This article discusses how many companies this year plan to use social media (especially because it is a free source of marketing) to promote their sales for the Holidays.

An example they cite is "Innovative uses of social networking include Best Buy's Twelpforce, which uses Twitter to answer tech support questions, and will offer holiday gift advice this winter".

Not all marketing experts are convinced this will be effective. My thoughts are that since it is free, they might as well utilize the resources at hand. I also think that in this class we have proven time and time again how effective social media marketing can indeed be. What do you think?

I think that because social networking sites have become so popular that it is a smart marketing move to take advantage of this trend and use these sites for advertising purposes. Although it is still uncertain whether or not social media marketing is effective, I think that it is important for marketers to follow the trend and see what happens, especially because people rely on the internet more and more as a mean for acquiring information about products and services. I agree with you that it also causes minimal damage to a company seeing as though it is free to use these sites and that the only real costs associated with it are those of employees who manage them.

"Salses Marketing" is not something I am familiar with at this time but it seems like it is pretty close to Sales promotion.

Good point Jill. Here is my point, its free, its available and it takes little effort. Why would you not use it to complement your activities. It just makes makes sense. Maybe not purely for advertising as that might irritate customers; but certainly to keep them engaged and reach them where they already are at this time.
