Online Video Ads are Booming

Posted by Thomas Barguirdjian in , , ,

You know those short clips you're forced to watch before you can actually see the video you clicked on? Well those short little ads seem to be doing their job pretty well.

According to the New York Times, videos are now the fastest growing segment of online advertising.

"Digital video amounted to $477 million in revenue in the first half of 2009, up 38 percent from the same time period in 2008, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau."

Do you think revenue for online video advertising is increasing because the ads are successful, or is it simply because online video content is becoming more and more popular?

I think it is based on growing popularity. It is hard to imagine that those ads are so successful. I mostly just find them annoying and avoid watching it or sometimes avoid a video with an ad altogether.

At least with me, digital video advertising is the least effective form of advertising that exists, as I avoid them completely.
