We talked about the Naked Pizza billboard as an example of using Social Media along with traditional marketing methods and here are several more interesting examples. I anticipate that this practice will become more and more common and even end up on product packaging soon.

I do agree that implementing social media into billboards and other such advertising is definatly hitting the main target markets and obviously, is working. It makes it easier for people to follow up on events as well as curve boredom, because multiple people will continue to "surf the web" even though they arent really looking at anything at all. If they remember an add with something about twitter or facebook, they dont even need to know the exact name, they can find it. Although, even though they may start advertising using social media on product packaging, it still goes to show the importance of print media in todays world, having to physically hold the label in your hands and carry it around.

I think the most important part is advertising in new and inventive ways. For instance, when Naked Pizza used the billboards for social media marketing, I think this was at that point a new and innovative idea. So, if other companies choose to implement that too in the near future, it too might be successful. But once we get flooded with similar type advertising, it becomes old news and will be not as exciting and capturing as it was originally.

For instance, did anyone notice the blue tape dinosaurs that appeared last spring on the brick walls outside of the SAU? Did anyone again notice the blue tape whales that are currently up? Well the dinosaurs were used by the Improv group to promote their improv show that was titled something relevant to dinosaurs, and the whale is a pun image to advertise Jimmy Wales coming to RIT. This such advertising, although not related to social media is a big hit. But once it becomes overused, it will too become old news and will become less relevant to users.
