Google: Always the technology bridesmaid never the bride

Posted by Brynna Baldauf in , , ,

There have been rumors of the iSlate, Apple's new tablet device, set to release as early as mid January and with the surrounding buzz and eagerness of their fanbase, it's in their best interest. However, Google, a large competitor to Apple is interested in introducing a tablet device as well. Possibly called the "Courier", it posesses a bulkier design (using two screens over the iSlate's one) and a less jazzy name than the mock ups of the iSlate. The rumors circulating are just that however, and the most recent one states that the deice is scheduled to relese in June later this year.

Tonight is also rumored to be the official announcement of the Courier, as Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is giving a keynote in Las Vegas. Google is taking the more open approach to their marketing; an official video detailing the device has hit the web and if announced tonight, that would make this tablet officially announcement previous to the iSlate's. I guess we'll find out tomorrow morning.

Kindle versus iSlate?

Posted by Maria Mercedes Rodriguez in , ,

Amazon introduced Kindle in 2007. This portable, electronic reading device that allows you to have up to 1,500 books in a slim and lightweight screen is becoming more and more popular, especially around the holiday season. In general, the new market is expected to double in 2010.

However, some argue that Kindle's poor design has lead Apple to create its own version of a portable reading device that is to be released at the beginning of 2010. Rumor has it that Apple's new iSlate will consist of a 10.1-inch touchscreen with webcam, wireless access to the internet, web browser, email software, etc. The iSlate will cost between $800 and $1000, more expensive than Amazon's Kindle.
