oogle succeeds at marketing to customers without being overly intrusive. Look at its sponsored text ads, appearing in its search results: They work. But as more and more marketers use the Web to reach customers, many companies fail to transmit product information without breaching their customers' sense of privacy.
A new study suggests ways companies can better target individuals without crossing a line. Avi Goldfarb of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and Catherine Tucker of the MIT Sloan School of Management, the study's coauthors, had access to a database that tracked just under 3,000 online ad campaigns.

user generated content
This article was useful for me in writing my individual research paper in showing how internet user-generated content is not always good for marketing. Businesses are losing control about what consumers have to say about their products due to the growth of social networking. Dell and other companies are creating websites to receive feedback from consumers and future ideas before they send it out into the world of social networking. Responding to consumer complaints is very critical for companies because negative conversations can spread quickly online. The article finishes up by giving six recommendations to companies on how to respond to bad conversations about their brands in social media. Very reliable source, businessweek.com

Today on the internet, news and gossip floats around anywhere, and most of the time it is free. This has posed a huge problem for print news sources such as a magazines and newspapers. To combat this struggle, VIVmag's is making an attempt to cross the bridge and bring magazines into the digital age as well. They have teamed up with Apple, and have created a completely digital magazine specifically designed for the iPad. On the iPad, customers would be able to access normal magazines articles in formatted like any other machine, the twist is that with these different pages and articles, the fact that they move. The video I have included is a more detailed description of what they are doing and what their first, finished magazine is.

Implementing a social media business strategy is key for any business to be successful today, and is a part of a successful marketing plan. But oftentimes (and especially for small business with limited resources) it is difficult to know how to go about executing an effective plan. In the article "HOW TO: Implement a Social Media Business Strategy," written by Sharlyn Lauby, it talks about some step-by-step ways to create and follow a social media plan.
The first step in the process is determining your objective, which essentially means figuring out why you want use social media for your business, and what you hope to achieve with it. After accomplishing that, it is important to establish who in your organization is going to be responsible for these tasks. When deciding this, it's key to remember the organization's employees. These people are oftentimes very up-to-date on technology and social media trends. Lastly, and possibly most importantly, its critical that you listen to what is being discussed and talked about via other social media websites or by your competition. A social media business strategy will fail if you are not discussing or maintaining an online presence that your customers are interested in.

Like I've said in one of my previous posts it really seems like Google is going to take over the world with their ideas. It looks like they have started to find ways by using Google Chrome and built in SPDY support to make website loading at least 55% faster. This would be a big contribution to the history of the internet and it would definitely be sweet to have faster page loads.

Digg,

I just stumbled upon this post that was at the top of Digg. It basically discloses the contents of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement within the Obama administration, and it none of it sounds good. Firstly, ISPs have to constantly overlook user-contributed content, such as pictures or videos, which would mean that services such as YouTube and Flickr would not be able to exist. It also says that copyright infringers will be cut off from the Internet, "This means that your entire family could be denied to the internet -- and hence to civic participation, health information, education, communications, and their means of earning a living." There is more at the link.

This article talks about how to build your personal brand using YouTube. Because YouTube is one of the largest sharing networks out there it is extremely useful, consumers who view your post will feel like they know you by watching the video, which is an extremely powerful medium. Users can then link their YouTube posts to their facebook, linkedin, myspace, or blog account, giving them the advantage of distribution to friends and followers.
I thought this was pretty interesting, espeically because it is about personal branding and how to use a medium that is extremely powerful and popular, but extremely simple and easy to do.

Imagine your browser being able to remove all the clutter around the content you really want to read. Well imagine no more, it's called Readability.
Readability can be installed on almost every browser, including Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. With it you can transform any website, removing all the ads that surround the content you really want to read and turning it into a format that the user chooses.
How will this affect online advertising?

I know we've talked a lot about this before but i continue to find it interesting on how to reach the baby boomer generation through the internet. these people can be people that will be giving our generation interviews for jobs that can make our future, so i think its better to have a grander understanding on how the work with something that has been so native to us.

This article talks about how the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) wants to implement international domain names that can be written in languages other than English. This non-profit group oversees domain names and is meeting in Seoul to discuss whether to allow, for the first time, Internet addresses to be based on scripts instead of Latin letters. If approved, the first entries will be set sometime in mid 2010. They say they have already started testing and are confident that it is effective. More information in the original source.

I Blame Twitter for the Fact That I Totally Hate Kittens
I found this article to be really interesting because it states what everyone already knows or bring it to your own attention. Basically it says that everyone is so excited about posting blogs and putting there two cents in that no one reads the whole story about what they are going to post about, so instead of getting the full picture they only get half and then make up arguments that are not even legit. The truth is that most people do not read the whole of what they write about and then their story is flawed, but gets passed around the
internet like popcorn at a movie theater. So now instead of everyone else checking up on the first post they just put their two cents on what the first guy wrote...
I thought this was kind of interesting.. It doesn't really have anything to do with kittens though.

I thought this article was interesting because it really shows us how vulnerable we are on the Internet. In one case one program infiltrated the French military computer system as well as surgical ward in England.
Basically what they are suggesting is that instead of trying to fix the current Internet, we should start raising funds to start over. According to the article this would be the only way to make the Internet safer in terms of viruses and other Internet based infections of computers.
They referred to what could happen with the Internet we have now as waiting for a "digital Pearl Harbor".

So the topic of Internet Marketing always seems to be how companies look for ways to utilize social media and the personal information available to gain insight on the habits of internet users. Today we even went a step further and talked about web crawlers and their jobs indexing and cataloging information for search engines who're trying to segment millions of web searches.
However web crawlers can be used in other ways as well. Indexing text to search for key terms is one thing, but web crawlers also can collect entire websites and all of their content, long after the sites themselves have been disbanded and deleted.
Check out this link here and type in any website you're familiar with, and then sit back and be amazed at the many different years of the many versions that have come and gone, even perhaps those that are no longer there. It'll surprise you...
