UGC Under Fire

Posted by Nathaniel R. Fox in , ,

As more people are participating with some kind of user generated content it is becoming apparent that the phenomenon that was once considered just entertainment is now becoming a serious business. One concern that has been raising eyebrows is what to do about UGC consumers that are posting material that has a copyright. Critics are now arguing that UGC providers must include stipulations in their terms of agreement that specify what can and can’t be posted. Also all UGC providers are now being held to standards that would expect them to have “Identification Technology” to detect and remove any illegal content. It seems that if user generated providers are doing all they can to keep away from infringement, then copyright owners will not take legal action. It will be interesting to see what kind of restrictions will be put in place due to these incidents, and whether or not this will affect the profits of UGC providers.

GOOD ARTICLE ON USER-GENERATED CONTENT

Posted by Geoff Metzger in , ,

This article was useful for me in writing my individual research paper in showing how internet user-generated content is not always good for marketing. Businesses are losing control about what consumers have to say about their products due to the growth of social networking. Dell and other companies are creating websites to receive feedback from consumers and future ideas before they send it out into the world of social networking. Responding to consumer complaints is very critical for companies because negative conversations can spread quickly online. The article finishes up by giving six recommendations to companies on how to respond to bad conversations about their brands in social media. Very reliable source, businessweek.com

Googles Goes Social

Posted by Maria Mercedes Rodriguez in , ,

Google just acquired Aardvark for $50 million. This company was founded in 2007 by two Googlers and it provides customized answers to your questions from your friends in real time. For example, you ask a question and the service sends this question to your friends and your friends' friends that are online and are likely to provide you with an answer. It's basically having an entire network to answer all your uncertainties.

It is clear that the acquisition of the Aardvark service is Google's way of competing with Facebook and Twitter and the way in which they use real-time user-generated content. However, more than becoming a social network, it will provide users with information as well as facilitating interaction between them.

Why Does This YouTube Video Have 79 Billion Views?

Posted by Samantha Dudics in , , ,

There is a music video named "Twista ft. Do Or Die-do you" that is topping the YouTube view list with 79,441,058,538 views and we can't figure out why. It is obviously a fake number yet YouTube still has it on top which is giving it a lot of unnecessary attention. We are now trying to figure out how one can inflate their number of total number of views on a YouTube video and how long it will take their administration to fix it. If anyone has any idea how this was done Mashable is trying to get the answers. You can read the whole article by clicking here.
