Social Media Continues to Go Corporate

As I looked around online searching for information about the expansion of social media, I found a few articles that talk about shifts in social media trends. What stood out the most was the idea that social media such as facebook, twitter and myspace will be becoming more corporate. This means that instead of individuals using such media as a means of communications, the majority of users will be companies using such media as means to advertise and communicate with its publics.
While this trend can already be seen in action by any social media user, it seems a little far fetched in my mind. As a user of social media myself, I have noticed the increase of corporate presence in social media. My opinion is that this presence will only remain effective until it becomes popular. What this means, is that the more corporations that use this type of outlet, the less effective it will be. Consumers are continually adapting and changing to block out new types of advertising.
