Startups often bootstrap, meaning they minimize costs as thoroughly as possible to offset necessary expenses. Today, startups utilize social media for real results, such as customer service through Twitter, building communities and tribes and building awareness, product marketing, and staying organized. Social media helps businesses connect with users to keep it 'real', transparent and authentic. The focus on building communities increases revenue but the costs are minimal. Staying organized is also extremely important, and the increase in freeware helps businesses stream internal workflow.
